Crosstraining Springtouw van RXpursuit
CrossFit jump ropes, or speed ropes, are a staple in WODs for exercises like single unders, double unders, or crossovers. At RXpursuit, we've crafted a high-quality speed rope in various colours, made from the best materials. We’ve also developed a weighted jump rope for those looking for an extra challenge.
So, are you on the hunt for the best speed ropes to elevate your CrossFit WODs?
What are CrossFit speed ropes?
CrossFit speed ropes, also known as speed skipping ropes or speed jump ropes, are specially designed to deliver high speed and efficiency during jump rope exercises. Unlike traditional ropes, which are often made from leather or cotton, speed ropes are typically constructed from lightweight materials like PVC, metal, or coated steel wire. The handles are usually lighter and ergonomically designed, allowing for quick wrist movements.
The key feature of a speed rope is its swivel mechanism—often in the form of ball bearings—which allows the rope to spin with minimal friction and maximum speed. This makes it easier to perform more advanced moves like double unders (where the rope passes under your feet twice in a single jump).
Different speed ropes for CrossFit
At RXpursuit, we've developed two types of speed ropes: the Speed Rope Falcon Pro and the Weighted Eagle Pro, each with its own unique features. Our ropes are designed by athletes, tested during actual CrossFit workouts, and refined using all the feedback we gathered to ensure the best performance possible.
We offer the following speed ropes:
You can also purchase spare cables from us in case your current rope wears out, want to customize your rope or if you simply want a backup.

Why buy your own CrossFit speed rope?
In most CrossFit boxes, there are usually a few communal ropes available. However, if you want to master moves like double unders efficiently, a generic gym rope may not cut it. These ropes are often not adjusted to your height, which can hinder your progress. That's why it’s smarter to invest in your own speed rope. Plus, if you're considering competing, owning your own rope is essential, and it makes practising at home a breeze.
Skipping is fantastic for overall fitness because it helps build endurance while working various muscle groups, including your arms, chest, shoulders, core, and legs. This not only strengthens muscles but also boosts bone health.
It also improves your coordination and motor skills.
The difference between a speed rope and a regular skipping rope
A "regular" skipping rope is likely the one you remember from your childhood. It’s lightweight, usually made from plastic, and the handles are relatively larger compared to a speed rope. If you’re just using a rope for warming up or basic single unders, a standard rope will do. But for more advanced moves like double unders, triple unders, or crossovers, a speed rope is the better choice.
Speed ropes stand out due to their thin steel cable, which is typically coated for protection. The steel cable enables higher speeds with less effort to keep the rope moving. What sets them apart is that the cable on a speed rope is often attached to the handles at a 90-degree angle, allowing for optimal rotations thanks to the swivel-bearing design during your CrossFit workouts.
The handles are often made from aluminium to improve grip and boost speed even more. There are also plastic handle versions available, which can be great for beginners. However, they are generally less durable and may become slippery if your hands get sweaty.
